Teralyn Brown is a printmaking artist born and based in the South Bay Area. Her work uses primarily etching and photo-based techniques, focusing on the time-based nature of the processes and their ability to describe change and permanence. Brown's work surrounds found objects and the collective engagement of friends, family, and acquaintances in the search for candid subject matter in daily life.
Brown’s most recent collection of etchings centers around discarded wooden chairs found in overgrown fields and roadsides. Arranged in fractals and tangled in foliage, she understands these chairs to be in a shared suspension between growth and decay. Skeletal in their wooden forms, the chairs embody human vulnerability to nature’s cycles.
Brown graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a BA in Studio Art and received an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently a lecturer in printmaking at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
